What Number are you on LinkedIn?
March 22nd, 2010 | by Jason Alba |I saw a question on LinkedIn Answers from Steven Burda asking what number you were in LinkedIn. In other words, of the 60M people on LI, were you in the first million? Or the last million?
The easiest way I found to figure this out is to search on your own name and then click on the profile. In the URL you’ll see this:

That is for the profile I use… I was the 5,108,340th person to sign up for LinkedIn… that’s pretty cool!
I also have this other profile sitting out there from when I was employed a long time ago and heard about LinkedIn… I didn’t do a thing with it - it’s just sitting there… check this out:

What’s your number?

LOL - “I guess”… yeah, not an important number … but it could be fun if it’s impressive… thanks Chris :p

So, I was number 2.5 million, does that make me an early adopter?? I forget when i joined, probably sometime back in 2003/4 when I was actively job hunting.

@Jody, I would say you were one of the earliest to get on LinkedIn… as to whether you were an early adopter… not if you didn’t do anything with it (like how I didn’t do anything with my first account :p). But if you actually used it in your job search when you signed up, yeah, you were an early adopter!

I actually found LinkedIn through a recommendation in an answer someone left on Yahoo! Answers.

3,811,990 - With 60 million users I consider myself on the front end of the adoption curve, but it would be pretty awesome to be below the 1 million mark.

Thanks to every one at LI for creating the site *AND* to the 60M+ that make it such a useful resource.

Well thanks Jason. I knew I was “late to the LinkeIn party” (7271206) but now you made me discover there are 12 people with the same name as me (there goes my feeling of “being unique” ;-))

2,369 — Yes, that’s correct — only 4 digits.
My coauthor, David Teten, is 1,575. He joined like two days before I did.

I had no idea I was an ‘early adopter’ of LinkedIn.

Scott, considering *who* you are and your role in social media, I’m surprised you aren’t like number 6 or something :p

Jeez oh Man..I thought I was in early in the game with LinkedIn with my 1,111,299th ranking, but then I see some 4 digit numbers and I am humbled.
But then again my wife always says “size doesn’t matter” so I got that going for me! LOL.
Lots of fun Jason. Thanks for the post.

I discovered a couple of interesting things by digging a little further.
First of all, I think the first 1200 or so IDs must have been for test data. The IDs of the founders start with Jean-Luc Vaillant (CTO) at 1210. Reid Hoffman is 1213.
On the LinkedIn company history page ( http://press.linkedin.com/history ), it says:
“The site launched on May 5th…when the five founders invited about 350 of their most important contacts to join.”
So it looks like up through about 1560 are the LinkedIn founders and their closest friends.

Thanks as always for sharing. Looks like one of my fans beat me to the punch with my 235,001 number…never thought that I was one of the first users on LinkedIn…but Scott Allen’s number blew me away! I knew his middle name was social media, but..

Hi Jason,
1,979,678 is my number. I never thought that I joined in so early (comparing with 60M+) being from Eastern Europe. Thanks for bringing this up.
