New Feature: LinkedIn University Pages

August 20th, 2013 | by Jason Alba |

LinkedIn introduced “University Pages,” which I think is a smart move for them, strategically.

I’m not sure how much real value it will bring to users but I think this might put LinkedIn more on the strategic map for school administrators, and have them push LinkedIn down their ranks, which would increase visibility and perhaps usage from students.  Capturing students’ attention should help increase usage after they leave school… filling LinkedIn’s pipeline of users with young professionals.

I think it looks great on paper.  A number of challenges to overcome to actually get those students to use the system (especially if they aren’t doing university research… in other words, once they choose a school), and use it after they graduate, but it is a good foot-in-the-door to get more of that demographic.

What do you think about University pages?  Valuable?
