LinkedIn + Twitter = ?

October 19th, 2010 | by Jason Alba |

I got this from an attendee of one of my recent LinkedIn workshops:

I’ve found an interesting use of Twitter.  I’ve found some interesting profiles in LinkedIn with no common groups to me or logical introduction devices, but they have Twitter accounts.  I go in and follow them on Twitter.  So far, three of them have followed me back.

I talked about this a bit in the workshop – I LOVE that LinkedIn allows people to put their Twitter handle in.

Why?

Because, in general, it is not easy to communicate with someone in LinkedIn.  LinkedIn is not necessarily a “communication” tool… but Twitter definitely is.

If someone has their Twitter handle on their Profile, I’ll be able to learn more about them and make a determination regarding how “contactable” they might be on Twitter.

Cool, huh?

A question for you might be this: Are you making it easy or hard to contact you?

    Jason,
I totally agree with your comment about it being sometimes difficult to communicate on LinkedIn. Once you’re connected, it’s easy, but sometimes not before. Folks get on LinkedIn, but don’t leave other ways to communicate, such as email, phone, etc.

At first I just passed this post by — but now with a week of LinkedIn’s Signal under my belt, may need to dig deeper. Not a big Twitter user, yet.

To your end question – many do make it difficult – e.g. if you are looking for a job why is your direct contact info not on your LinkedIn Profile???
