LinkedIn Contacts Export

December 3rd, 2012 | by Jason Alba |

Friday I talked about backing up your Profile to a pdf… a very important thing to do.  You should also backup your Contacts.  In this post I want to share what LinkedIn is sending you when they export your Contacts to a CSV.  I think this is mostly a post to take a snapshot of history.

Last week a JibberJobber user said “the export only gave me 5 fields.”  Initially I thought he did something wrong… but then I counted the fields with data, and he is right! It seems like so much more is exported… but here’s what you get:

  • First Name
  • Last Name
  • Email Address
  • Company
  • Job Title

Here are all of the BLANK columns they send you… it’s fun to see what someone at LinkedIn thought would be good to export perhaps 9 years ago:

  • Title (not job title… this is more like Doctor, etc.)
  • Middle Name
  • Suffix
  • Email 2 Address
  • Email 3 Address
  • Business Street
  • Business Street 2
  • Business Street 3
  • Business City
  • Business State
  • Business Postal Code
  • Business Country
  • Home Street
  • Home Street 2
  • Home Street 3
  • Home City
  • Home State
  • Home Postal Code
  • Home Country
  • Other Street
  • Other Street 2
  • Other Street 3
  • Other City
  • Other State
  • Other Postal Code
  • Other Country
  • Department
  • Assistant’s Phone
  • Business Fax
  • Business Phone
  • Business Phone 2
  • Callback
  • Car Phone
  • Company Main Phone
  • Home Fax
  • Home Phone
  • Home Phone 2
  • ISDN
  • Mobile Phone
  • Other Fax
  • Other Phone
  • Pager
  • Primary Phone
  • Radio Phone (what??)
  • TTY/TDD Phone
  • Telex (huh??)
  • Assistant’s Name
  • Birthday
  • Manager’s Name (must have been more job security back in those days!)
  • Notes
  • Other Address PO Box
  • Spouse (must have been more spouse securi…. JUST KIDDING! LOL)
  • Web Page
  • Personal Web Page

In case you lost count, that is FIFTY FOUR!! fields that are blank in the export.

Cool bit of history, huh?
