Also interesting that I just got a LinkedIn email (these are rare for most?) offering a 15% discount to upgrade at plans starting at $21 per month: "Upgrade you job search on LinkedIn"

I agree with Barbara on the second point - though I did not see the words - that there is plenty of utility in base LI.

Note also that functionality like search modifications has moved to the Left side to make room for more paid advertising on the Right side, which is fine, these are more relevant to LI than many others do.

Interesting. I would expect linkedin to try to get everyone onto the paid service, even if they don't need it. Have they increased the price of the paid service?

Hi Jason!

I think the point that the representative was trying to make was twofold. First, since he was speaking to a group of professionals in transition he wasn't there to outwardly sell the service, but second and perhaps more importantly, I think his point was that LinkedIn offers an enormous amount of utility at the free level. He was a big proponent of organic relationships and leveraging affinities and for job seekers saw that as a more relevant search strategy than the ability to send additional emails. And I agree with him on this point. Thanks for spotting the post!

Perhapss LinkedIn's marketing guru's are leveraging one of many Mom's favorite motivational approaches? Reverse Psychlogy!

That's right, you're job search isn't worth investing the extra $$$ in an upgrade. Cuz you're just not that important, mister! :D Might just work.
