It'd be helpful to have some pics of the offending photos so that we can then gauge what's a good profile pic and what isn't.

I am for not using one at all. I have an avatar for my blog postings, which is a cartoon character, but I have nothing in my LI profile.

To me, having photos and 'status lines' in LI were steps towards making it like FB or MySpace. And since I shied away from those sites because they were too much 'for kids', I was very disappointed in LI moving in that direction. I have a very different persona in my professional profiles, and making LI more like FB is undesirable to me.

Yes, it should, I agree.

My position on the image is, if you are comfortable, put it up.

My post is not about whether you are attractive or not, it's about the pose, background, smile, etc.

If you aren't comfortable with the image, don't put it.

If you have an image and it looks like a mug shot, fix it. Which would be either:

a) replace it with a better image, or

b) take it down and don't have anything up.

Thoughts?

What if you happen to be one of those people who do NOT take a good a photo? I would consider myself fortunate if my head-shot looked like a mug shot!

Seriously: I am hardly what most people would call attractive. Shouldn't my 20 years of work experience be of greater interest to the hiring manager than whether I am photogenic (which, in all honestly, I am not)?
