Hi Jason,

Its funny to see you pontificating about the exact same issue..re groups.. They are way to easy to join, and then, yes, you land up with the Now what? question.
I did in fact start a local Linkedin.. the NY/ CT Network, with the hope of making it come alive, YES.. a real, in person meeting!!) although, time has not permitted that to happen yet... however, one of the suggestions I make to people, especially those looking for work, or to expand their networks, groups are probably a good way to go.. Would love to hear your thoughts.
Thanks for all the info you share on this stuff!! I have learnt a tremendous amount!

Thanks for setting up the JibberJobber group! It's a great idea.

I think there is value in joining groups as it is just another way of expanding your network by finding individuals with common interest.

One difficulty about groups has been finding out what groups exists. One good site I found was http://www.linkedingroupsdirectory.com/
I wish LinkedIn would have a complete list or a search capability for their groups. If anybody knows of any other LinkedIn group directories maybe you can share those links via a comment here! (Jason, I hope you won't mind.)

One unexpected side effect of joining groups I've noticed is getting a sense of who in your network is paying attention to your profile. Often within a few days after I join a group I'll notice some of my first degree connections also join that group. Coincidence? I think not...
